On Friday 24th February, TCM CEO David Liddle was joined by two experts to discuss how to build a great workplace culture. The panel was described as “one of the best webinars” that viewers had seen, filled with insights, debate and top tips.

Here’s a little more about the hosts:

David Liddle:

In 2001, David established The TCM Group. His vision for TCM was, and still is, to help organisations to develop purpose-driven, values-based and person-centred cultures. For the past two decades, David has been at the forefront of conflict management, human resources, employee relations and leadership best practice. He’s also written two bestselling books: ‘Managing Conflict’ and ‘Transformational Culture’ and has contributed to many other texts. In 2021, David was recognised as one of the global top 20 HR most influential thinkers and in 2022, he was invited to join the prestigious Thinkers50 Radar. With a passion for collaboration, inclusion and empowerment, his purpose is to simply put people first.

Gillian Caroe:

Following a career in international business, Gillian has been a full-time mediator for nearly 20 years and has been involved with hundreds of successful interventions in both the public and private sectors in the UK and beyond.

She is a Fellow of the Civil Mediation Council, a CEDR Chambers mediator, a Lead Faculty for CEDR’s Mediator Skills Training and Advanced Negotiation Skills courses and a Teaching Fellow in the Law Department at SOAS.  She is also an accredited coach.

In 2022, Gillian was awarded Workplace Mediator of the Year at the National Mediation Awards.

Perry Timms:

Perry Timms has over 30 years of experience in business change and performance with the last 20 being in HR/Organisation Development. He ranked Number 1 in HR’s Most Influential Thinkers 2022 (his 5th inclusion in that list), is a 4x Guest Professor, a 2x author and 2x TEDx speaker. Perry founded People and Transformational HR 10 years ago and the venture is now a Certified BCorporation, a Certified Freedom-Centred WorldBlu-listed organisation, a Gold Standard 4-day Working Week organisation, a Living Wage employer and a Climate Positive enterprise. Perry is a LinkedIn Learning Instructor, a Chartered Member of the CIPD and a Fellow of the RSA.

A conversation full of energy, challenge and encouragement about what we can all be doing better (and what we’re already doing well) to make work a more collaborative, compassionate and human space. If you’re eager for change, this one hour video was made for you.

For many watching, it was refreshing to hear big leaders role model the behaviours that I want to see in the workplace. We’re all in agreement that you can leave your typical management hierarchy at the door – that’s not the way we want to work.

Instead, let’s connect as people and see where that takes us.

(Hint: it’s pretty far!)

Jonathan Rodrigues from The People and Culture Association (PCA) summed up the talk’s biggest takeaways:

  1. Check in with curiosity. Don’t just talk – listen to what your colleagues have to say.
  2. Don’t sanitise culture.
  3. Take responsibility. Own your culture. It’s in your hands, so show up.

If you missed out, here’s your chance to watch a really powerful discussion unfold. Grab a pen and some paper because you’re definitely going to leave this one feeling super inspired.
